What Is Fascinating About Multnomah Falls?
Multnomah Falls is located in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic area. You can easily find it off Interstate 84. It is one of the most popular destinations and attracts thousands of tourists every year. It also has spectacular trails that feel magical and a lush green environment that will make you want to extend your stay here.

Location
Many people usually believe that the nearest city or town from Multnomah Falls is Portland. Though the distance from the falls to Portland is quite short, there are still two other towns worthy of mention that are quite close to Multnomah. These are the cities of Dodson and Corbett. Don’t worry, not so many people know about this. This is probably because of the low population present in these two towns. Dodson has an estimated population of 1,298 and Corbett has an estimated 3,900 people.
However, if you are in the area just to see the Multnomah Falls, then you can make a slight detour and head on over to Portland. This city has a majestic backdrop of a volcanic mountain (the only city with a volcano within its limits).
Falls
The Multnomah Falls is the highest waterfall in Oregon and the 434th tallest in the world. Its falls have a height of 620 feet, though in two tiers. The first step has a drop of 542 feet while the second has a drop of 69 feet.
It’s also important to note that the water from these falls have their origin at the underground springs on Larch Mountain, as well as from rainwater. These springs obtain the water early in the year during snow melt. High water volumes are usually experienced during spring and winter. However, the spectacular falls can still be seen all year round (though it partially freezes during the coldest periods of winter).
Benson Footbridge
The Benson footbridge is the famous bridge where people stand to gaze at the majestic falls. It was built in 1914 and named after the person who donated the land where Multnomah Falls are located. This photogenic place is not only a great spot to take a photo of the falls, but also coincides as a nice place to catch your breath before continuing your journey to the top of the waterfall.
Falls Lodge
The Multnomah Falls has a bit of heritage as well. The Multnomah Falls lodge was built in 1925. It has a classy feel to it and a warm ambience that can make you forget about the wet outdoors. The lodge also has some scenic views over the cascading water and is a souvenir shop, restaurant and a visitor centre, complete with 3D models of the falls, are to be found here. Unfortunately, the lodge does not offer overnight accommodation.

Regardless of whether you will go on the steep climb or just view the waterfall from the bottom, always ensure that your wrap up warmly when visiting this place and that your shoes have enough traction.
